Check the numbers behind a work decision
Each case gives you a small dataset, a clear policy and a result you can check. Work it out on paper or in a spreadsheet, then enter your figures and keep a review sheet.
Suggested time: about 15 minutes per case. The numbers and companies are fictional.
Accounting
An invoice import contains exact repeats and a disagreement about one amount. Prepare the accepted invoice count and payable total, with a separate count of unresolved rows.

A buyer needs a replenishment quantity for three items. Work from usable stock at the cutoff, then round the shortage to full supplier packs.
Work through the case →Purchasing
You need at least 95 units within seven days. Compare the cost of feasible orders, including the supplier’s pack size and one freight charge.
Work through the case →Customer service
A support lead needs a breach summary for open tickets. Use the supplied elapsed and paused minutes to determine which open tickets exceed the internal response target.
Work through the case →Project delivery
A project manager has spent hours and fresh estimates to finish three work packages. Calculate the forecast total and the variance from the approved budget.

Four invoice lines need a payment recommendation. Apply a strict match against ordered quantities, accepted receipts and agreed prices; hold the entire line when a check fails.
Work through the case →Accounting
The bank statement and cash ledger disagree at month end. Use the listed timing items and unrecorded bank fee to bring both balances to the same cutoff.
Work through the case →Purchasing
A sourcing team has already scored three suppliers on the same 0–100 scale. Apply the agreed weights and explain why the highest price score does not win overall.
Work through the case →Research
Two teams supplied satisfaction counts and invitation counts. Combine the results without giving the small team the same influence as the larger response group.
Work through the case →Operations
A logistics reviewer needs an order-level delivery score. Keep timeliness and completeness separate before counting orders that satisfy both.
Work through the case →Project delivery
A coordinator has staffing requirements and available people for four one-hour slots. Quantify unmet coverage and keep surplus time separate.
Work through the case →Operations
Two inspection batches have different sample sizes. Produce the overall defect rate and identify which batches cross a stated internal review trigger.
